Bowel an infection (gastroenteritis). This is the most common cause of acute diarrhoea. Infants and young children are notably susceptible. Norovirus diarrhoea typically will make the news. It can occur in community epidemics. Diarrhoea attributable to a virus can last anywhere from two to 3 days.
